Shortcut Name: ReminderCombo1

Step 1: Read this.

Use this if you would like to either add a reminder or quickly see your open reminders without opening the reminders app. Then if you want to do more, tap on an item and it will open the reminders app and slide it over on your screen.

This works in any existing Goodnotes, Noteshelf, Notability digital planner, digital notebook or digital template. You are in control of where the shortcut goes, and how it looks.

You will want to read through all of this and watch the video to see how it works and what you need to do. It will be most helpful to set this up while watching the video so you can pause. I do have instructions below, but they are only part of the equation. It all works together to help you get it up and running effortlessly and easily!

My best advice: Do not do this if you are in a hurry. Anytime you are dealing with tech+code+something new you need to go slow so there aren’t any errors. It must be very precise.

Step 2: Watch this.

Watching the video and following along here is a must. They work together because I need to show you things and I reference these steps in the video.

Step 3: Create the shortcut yourself, or skip to step 4 to download it directly to your iPad.

Below is a screenshot of the shortcut for those of you who would prefer to set it up yourself, as opposed to just downloading it directly onto your iPad. I have added comments in the shortcut to show you where you need to do things.

Remember this is only creating the shortcut. Keep reading to see how to get it to work.

Step 4: Get the shortcut from the link below.

If you would prefer to just download the shortcut, (the easiest method), you will need to go into your iPad settings and allow Private Sharing in Shortcuts. Settings -> Shortcuts -> Private Sharing ON

You can turn this off when you are done if you want.

Step 5: Fill in the required information in the shortcut.

Now you will want to go through the shortcut and read my comments to add the information you need for it to work! You will want to watch the above video while completing the steps because there is information in the video that is not in the comments section.

Step 6: Adding the shortcut link to Goodnotes

Below is the link you will add in Goodnotes. I show you how to add the link and icon in the video. When you are done, skip to Step 7.

Step 6.1: Adding the shortcut link to Noteshelf, Notability and other note taking apps

The process to add a link is different in Noteshelf and Notability. I have created a separate video for these so you can see how to get them to work and look good. I also talk about other apps in the video as well.

Step 7: When shortcuts go awry.

I have been using shortcuts and automations for a few years now in other areas of my life and trust me when I say this: THEY CAN AND WILL RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. It’s ok. They will work again. Here are some common things that happen. I also have a video if you prefer to watch than read.

1. An update is ready.

2. An update is coming. Seriously, this can be frustrating, but anytime something isn’t working as expected and there is no software or app update, there will be one in a day or two. Every. Single. Time.

3. An update has occurred and you just need to tap a button to say it’s ok to run a shortcut.

4. You forgot to choose “Always Allow” when prompted in an automation.

5. You changed the name of the shortcut and it doesn’t match the link name, or there is a typographical error. The name of the shortcut MUST MATCH the name in the link.

6. Just turn it off and on again. I don’t know why, you just need to do it.

7. Try again tomorrow. :-)

Congrats! You did it! Now save your links.

I recommend, to save yourself some time, that you create a template where you store your links and icons, like I do in the video. By doing this, you can quickly copy and paste them into any template anytime you want without having to come back and re-do everything. You can also download the free template I made for you as well.
